A memoir of one man’s coming of age, set during the end of apartheid in South Africa. Trevor was born to a white Swiss father and a black Xhosa mother at a time when this union was punishable by 5 years in prison. Trevor was kept mostly indoors when he was young to hide him from the government who could take him. When South Africa’s tyrannical rule ended, Trevor and his mother set out on a grand adventure embracing the opportunities won by a centuries-long struggle. Born a Crime is the story of a mischievous young boy who grows into a restless young man who eventually ends up hosting the Daily Show in the US.
